WELCOME TO ERIE’S BLACK WALLSTREET

Promoting Black Businesses

Focusing on inclusive community development.

The Focus

Information

There are nearly 50 million Black people in the United States. The buying power of our population is nearly 1 trillion dollars. “Black owned businesses in the United States increased 34.5% between 2007 and 2012 totaling 2.6 million Black firms.” Erie’s Black Wall Street will focus upon the role of income, wealth and business ownership and their effects on Black people, families and communities. One of our primary areas of focus will be to provide useful information to our members and visitors that will help improve their work as business owners and members of the community at large.

Development

Erie’s Black Wall Street is committed to creating spaces in which community members are able to develop knowledge-based, informational, interpersonal and professional skills in their efforts to reach their fully realized potential.

Entrepreneurship

Positive Black entrepreneurship is a necessary staple of Black life in the United States. In a segregated society, they were places of commerce, community and support. In a desegregated society, Black businesses perform many of the same functions, but with expanded outlooks and potential. Erie’s Black Wall Street is committed to identifying, recognizing and supporting the work of Black businesses in Erie and its surrounding communities by promoting the work of its members.
